Who we are
Sending travellers into our country since 2005
Authentic Madagascar Tours is a Malagasy company, based in Antananarivo, run by a team that has been guiding visitors across this island since 2005. We've been certified by the Travelife sustainability programme since the early days of the scheme.
Every trip we sell is built around the traveller. We don't run group departures by default; we ask what you're hoping for, and we design from there. Most of our clients are repeat-by-recommendation.

Tourism that protects the country it depends on
Madagascar's wildlife survives because of the parks. The parks survive because of visitor fees. Your trip pays park rangers, supports community-managed reserves like Anja, and keeps Malagasy guides employed in the regions where they live.
We've been Travelife-certified since the programme began. We're founding members of TOP-Mada (Association of Professional Tour Operators of Madagascar), and we partner with Evaneos, Chapka and AS Guesthouse on responsible-travel standards.
How we operate

Help
Most-asked questions
When is the best time to visit Madagascar?+
April to November is the dry season and our recommended window. April–June for the rainforest at its richest, July–September for whales off Sainte-Marie, October–November for whale sharks off Nosy Be. We avoid sending first-time visitors December–March.
How fit do I need to be?+
Most of our trips involve 2–4 hour walks at gentle pace and suit anyone in normal walking shape. Our serious treks (Makay, Andringitra) are 6–8 hour days with full backpacks; we grade these honestly.
Do you do tailor-made trips?+
Almost everything we sell is tailor-made. The trips on this site are starting points — tell us when you can come, who's coming, and what you most want to see, and we'll build it around you.
Is it safe?+
Yes for travellers on guided trips. Tana has petty crime like any large city; outside the capital, the country is calm and welcoming. We have 24/7 in-country support for the duration of every trip.
Are you really locally owned?+
Yes. Authentic Madagascar Tours is a Malagasy company, based in Antananarivo, run by Malagasy people. Our guides are Malagasy. The lodges we recommend are locally managed where the option exists.
How does booking work?+
Send us an inquiry. We reply within 24 hours with a draft itinerary and price. 30% deposit secures your dates, balance due 60 days before departure. Full cancellation policy is sent with the proposal.
